Watermarks. I have been thinking about these. Should I start using one? Maybe. Something stops me, though. For a start, it feels pretentious, considering that photography is a passion of mine as opposed to a profession. Are watermarks just for professionals? Some day I hope it ends up a profession though, so the exposure of a watermark would be handy. Perhaps I shall create one and see how it goes.
Here, have some old photos of cakes and cafés, just because.
Well, regardless those other considerations, I think that at least that first one deserves some form of protection - either that, or go ahead and share it outright, which beats it being stolen.

I watermark the paid work I post on my blog, and the web-sized images I provide to clients--mainly because if they share their images online, I'd like the potential for referrals--but not generally otherwise. I'm just not that concerned about my personal work being used elsewhere, and in fact most things I post to Flickr are under a Creative Commons license. It's actually kinda cool to come across a site using a photo of mine. Some would argue "b-b-but you should be getting PAID for that!" Maybe in a perfect world, but there are so many free photos out there that hardly anyone pays for generic imagery these days.
